Learning Chinese Poems is a great way to practice pronunciation, but also learn a bit about the culture and history.
This Poem is by Tang Dynasty poet Meng Jiao and is a very well known poem when discussing the topic of the family bond.
Meng Jiao spent most of his life living in poverty and wandering from places to places, city to city, and did not get appointed a job in the imperial bureaucracy until close to his 50s. Although it was a low-level position, he was able to finally invite his mother to live with him in a much better living condition. After many years of being away from family, he treasured the bond with his mother greatly, and wrote down this poem to express his love and gratitude.
