Learning Chinese Poems is a great way to practice pronunciation, but also learn a bit about the culture and history.
Today’s poem is from Tang Dynasty poet Dù Mù about a lone traveller’s thoughts around the time of Qīng Míng Jié.
Qīng míng jié or Clear Bright Festival, also knowns as Tomb Sweeping day, is a traditional Chinese holiday occurring around the 5th of April every year. During qīng míng families gather to celebrate their ancestry by sweeping tombs, placing offerings, and burning joss paper. The holiday also promote people to become closer with nature by going for outings on the field and fly kite. It is a holiday about family and Mother Nature.
